WYSE

WYSE is an American manufacturer of cloud computing systems. In 2012 Dell informed the market that it had completed the acquisition of WYSE, renaming the company DELL WYSE. With this acquisition, Dell surpassed its rival Hewlett-Packard in the market for thin clients.

Opportunity

I was introduced to the CEO of WYSE Technology through a close friend while living in San Francisco. WYSE was in the process of either being acquired or potentially listing on the NYSE. The company’s legacy branding was in need of a refresh. I was retained to assist their marketing department with this effort with the end product being a stunning investor vision reel.

Approach & Soluton

In phase one we created a series of conceptual storyboards for the company to animate how a revised visual identity would look and how it would be deployed in a potential investor reel. I developed the storyboards with my go-to team in Beijing with whom I had worked on many previous projects.

These storyboards and design direction were approved by the management and marketing teams at WYSE.

OUTCOME

/Results

The approved storyboards made an impact. Luckily for WYSE (but unlucky for us), the company was acquired by Dell so our work was never able to come into its full animated form. Still, the experience in working with the management and marketing teams at WYSE represented a great learning experience for myself and my team in China.

/Solutions

01/ Working with a company on the brink of an acquisition, private placement or public listing.

When we began the project with WYSE, the company was in the middle of considering a public listing on NYSE or being acquired by a larger established technology company. This created a conservative, take-no-risks, mindset within many of the core team we interfaced with. In the end, the quality and creativity of the concepts we created in Bejing helped excite the team into making conceptual leaps on how the company could be presented to both sets of potential investors.
