HOTEL WAILEA
HOTEL WAILEA is an intimate 5-star enclave set within the most exclusive resort community on Maui. The hotel boasts 180-degree, unobstructed ocean views of three Hawaiian Islands, breathtaking mountain scenery, and 15 acres of Zen-inspired landscaped grounds comprised of tropical gardens, cascading waterfalls and winding pathways.

Opportunity & Approach
I ran into close friend Johnny, the owner of HOTEL Wailea, at a dinner party and he mentioned that he was in need of new images as part of a broader rebranding project. Working with Johnny is always a fun experience so I created these mood boards and flew to Maui to highlight my emotional vision for HOTEL Wailea photography pitch. I thought the images were a little sexy for a resort marketing campaign - but I did get the gig. HOTEL Wailea remains one of my all-time favorite hotels on Maui.
My approach to working with HOTEL Wailea was simple. The brief was clear, concise, and easy to follow.
OUTCOME

Over the course of the shoot, the HOTEL Wailea team and I created a series of images of the newly renovated pool and cabana area for the online and offline marketing programs.

/Challenges
/Solutions
01/ Weather and shooting time production windows were very early (backlit) and very late (pitch black).
Light and weather are typically not a concern for me as I like to adapt to the elements that present themselves.
HOTEL Wailea wanted images to be shot in the early morning which posed a bit of a challenge because of the strong natural backlight from the sunrise. The hotel also wanted images from twilight and late night as the pool area closes late.
I was able to work with my team to take advantage of both setups for great results. The images continue to be used in the resorts marketing campaigns today.
